Turning into a Bag Lady: Ipsy March 2016

March 29, 2016ipsy Bags, Standard

I’ve been subscribed to ipsy for 3 months now and wanted to share my goodies with you! I’ll leave my reviews/first impressions each month and give my overall thoughts for each month’s bag.

Some background: I was subscribed to Birchbox for almost 9 months, and decided to switch because I felt I kept getting the same items over and over again- hand cream, sunscreen, and haircare. No matter how I changed my preferences, the products would stay the same. Meanwhile, two of my coworkers were subscribed to ipsy and I would be so jealous hearing about the awesome makeup samples they got! So, I switched.

The theme of this month’s bag was Hello Spring. SO excited for Spring makeup trends to start! Here’s what I got:

Living Proof Perfect hair Day Dry Shampoo

IMG_3354I use dry shampoo often so I was so excited to get this in my bag. I’ve heard great things about this brand but hadn’t tried anything. I usually use a tinted dry shampoo to avoid the white cast so I was a little nervous to see how this would hold up.

I love this- the scent lingers throughout the day and it smells like you just got your hair shampooed at a salon. Much to my surprise, there was no white cast after I applied and shook out my roots. My hair didn’t get oily or gross throughout the day- my coworkers didn’t even notice my hair was any different than when I freshly wash it! This product was a WIN for me.

Me me me Loose Powder Brush

I was also really excited for this product because I have been on the hunt for a great powder brush. Usually, I just powder where I put concealer but since the weather is getting warmer, I’m going toIMG_3351 need to start powdering my entire face to keep oil at bay. I had never heard of this brand but was hoping this brush would be the product I was looking for.

Unfortunately, I was not a big fan of this brush. It didn’t seem to pick up product very well. I had to keep going into my powder pretty heavily in order for anything to get on the brush. The brush was smaller than I had thought a powder brush would be but I was hoping I could still make it work. The bristles feel really nice but the shape doesn’t really let you buff product all over the face. I might try to use this as a blush brush- it seems like it could give a nice sheer color to the cheeks.

TEMPTU Warm Glow Bronzer

IMG_3352I actually used to to own an airbrush machine (and never used it) so I am familiar with Temptu but haven’t tried many of their products. I was a little hesitant to try this product because I wasn’t sure how well it would work without the airbrush machine, but wanted to give this little guy the benefit of the doubt.

This bronzer definitely has a glow/sheen and seems like a great shade for that bronzed, summer look. When I first tried this, I dotted the product on the hollows of my cheeks. Then I took a kabuki contour brush to blend it out. It was patchy and hard to blend out but the pigmentation of this is gorgeous! I don’t know what I was thinking when I used a brush to apply this one. This product definitely screams to be blended with a sponge. I am definitely going to try this with my beautyblender.

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick in Soft Spoken

IMG_3353I have some of NYX’s lip liners and am not in love with them.  But I know NYX is a great brand overall so I was looking forward to trying one of their cream lipsticks. Online it looked like I was getting a hot pink shade and I was stoked to rock a bold lip look to kick off Spring! When I got my bag in the mail I realized I actually got the neutral shade soooo my bold lip idea went out the window.

Even though I would have loved the hot pink, this color suited me really well.  It’s definitely a great every day pinky-brown kind of shade which has been all the rage lately. This is similar to a liquid lipstick in its application and matte suede finish but it does transfer and I did have to reapply after I ate my lunch. Overall though I really like the moussey formula and it’s pretty comfortable and long wearing as long as you’re not eating. I will probably gravitate towards more bold colors this spring, but this would be great with a smokey eye look! Oh, and this product was also full sized.

Global Beauty Care Dead Sea Wash Off Mask

IMG_3350This was the only product in my bag that I was totally ‘meh’ about when I saw my sneak peek online. I do love masks, but I had never heard of this brand and already have tried multiple different clay masks. I figured this one would be just like the others I tried.

To my surpirse, I ended up liking this mask! There is a perfume-like scent to this mask which was weird at first but it doesn’t linger for very long. The most unique part of this mask to me was the texture. It was like a mousse! It felt luxurious on the skin!  And there are microparticles in the mask so it exfoliates as well. I’m so looking forward to using this again!

Overall Thoughts: A great month! The only real miss for me was the powder brush but I liked everything else. And even better- I can see myself actually using everything in this bag. I hope you guys liked this month’s bag too- what did you get in your ipsy this month?!
