Turning into a Bag Lady: October Ipsy 2017
It’s hard to believe that ipsy really does pay attention to reviews and blog posts, but I swear they must have looking at what I’ve been writing because this month’s bag was a huge improvement! Not only did I get multiple products from high end brands, everything actually suited my skin tone and type! I don’t even remember this month’s theme, so let’s just dive into these goodies:
Tarte Lifted Sweat Proof Mascara
Tarte is one of my fav high end brands so I’m always excited to try new products from them! This mascara is part of their “athleisure” line. So it’s supposed to be lightweight, natural looking makeup that will also stay put after you hit the gym. This Lifted mascara is supposed to be sweat proof. I don’t know if that means this is also waterproof but essentially this mascara is supposed to last through your workout. It’s a black brown shade so it looks very natural while still giving your lashes some separation and lift. I actually really enjoyed the formula of this one. It’s a drier formula but I didn’t notice any flaking throughout the day. It gave nice separation and lift so if you like a more natural looking lash, you will love this. I love deep black mascaras so this in between doesn’t suit me much.
Blaq Face Mask
Oh boy. I was actually super excited to try this mask because it has charcoal as its main ingredient. I love charcoal masks because they really help to clear out my pores. This mask was runnier than most masks I use and it was sticky! I was applying it and literally felt like I was putting on liquid latex. I then realized I didn’t know how long to keep it on (15 min, btw). So I hopped online and that’s when I saw that this is a peel-off mask. Which I’d been avoiding due to my sensitive skin. When I peeled this off (which was not easy and definitely not pain-free!), my entire face was beet red. And I noticed no big difference in my pores. It even made my husband’s face red and irritated! So if your skin is even a little bit sensitive, do not use this!
Hey Honey Trick AND Treat Cream Concealer
I have heard of this brand before but I don’t think I’ve ever tried any of their products. The name of this product is cute and very appropriate for the October bag though! I was worried about the shade of this because it’s just called “Natural Tone” which is totally not descriptive. It was a little dark for my preference but I was able to make it work. Since this is a cream concealer though, it’s not really ideal for my combo skin. It has nice coverage but I found it to be a little tough to blend. And it creased on me even though I set it immediately with a powder. It’s a bummer because this concealer has really nice ingredients. It may be worth a shot if you have dry under eyes!
Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Perversion
So I have this same eye pencil in 2 different shades: a black and a brown. I thought the shade I had (Zero) was their black shade. But this shade definitely takes it to a whole new level! Wooden pencils can dry out but I’ve never had any issue with the Urban Decay ones. It’s one of my go-to wooden pencil eyeliners. This shade in particular is ridiculously pigmented! It glides onto the eye effortlessly. There’s no tugging upon application and it doesn’t really budge once it’s on. It also wears super well. There’s no flaking or smudging! It lasts through my entire work day and then some without showing much wear at all. They are pricey, but the shade range is amazing and the quality makes these worth it for me.
Luna Lip Crayon in Elara
This was another product I was super excited to try out! As you may know, I love lip crayons because they’re so convenient! This one has nice pigmentation and just like other crayons, it’s super easy to slip into my purse. Lip crayons will need reapplied throughout the day so convenient packaging makes a difference for me. Another perk of this product is that it’s cruelty free so if that’s something you look for, this is a great choice! This one is more moisturizing than some other formulas I’ve tried which is also great because my lips have been dry recently. But the shade. Ipsy claims this is a “rosy” shade. But on me, this looks straight Barbie doll pink. I do like the formula! But I’ll need to mix with a lip liner in order to get a wearable shade for me.
So overall, this was a decent month. Definitely better than last month! The two high end products were definitely my favorite. I can see myself purchasing the Urban Decay eyeliner after it runs out. Not sure how “spooky” this month’s bag was. But the bag was pretty good overall. Oh and apparently I have 5 free invites to send a friend a bag, so if you’re interested let me know!
