Turning into a Bag Lady: August Ipsy Bag 2017

August 24, 2017ipsy Bags, , , Standard

So the bag design for this month is so freaking cute. And my mail envelope was gold and not pink! Did that happen to anyone else?! Anyways, I was kinda surprised to not see a blatant summer themed or even back to school bag. I’m definitely thinking they’ll jump right to fall with September’s design though! This month was all about #ipsyvibes- I think they were going for a boho/hippie vibe?

Yadah Silky Fit Concealer BB in Light Beige

The product name confuses me- is it a concealer or a BB cream? (Checked the website- definitely a BB cream). This does have SPF like most BB creams so it supposed to be good for your skin as well as give you some coverage. It’s so hard for me to judge this one because the color match is so far off! I did get tan at the beach recently, so this shade is a good 2 shades too light. Trust me, not a good look. It bums me out though because I do think I would have liked the product otherwise. It is on the sheer side but it is buildable. This BB cream blends out really easily with a beauty sponge, and I loved the finish. It’s matte and I swear it minimized my pores too!

Pacifica Coconut Blush Duo

I’m going to be honest- I did not have high hopes for this. I think I got eyeshadows from this brand before and they had zero pigment. But the size of the duo is huge for an ipsy bag! Definitely got my money’s worth this month. There are 2 shades- Beaming and Tenderheart and they look full sized! One shade is like a muted terracotta and the other is a muted pinky mauve. They both are flattering on my skintone and have great pigment. I get a nice flush of color when I dip into it once but can get more pigment if I dip in again. I honestly think the Beaming shade is going to become my new go-to for natural makeup days! Easy to blend and lasts all day too!

Gavee Gold Heart of Gold Elixir

Ok can we talk about this packaging? So pretty, yes. But sooo extra! It came in this mesh bag and the whole thing just screams luxe to me. This elixir supposedly has liquid 24k gold in it as well. But point is, this is a boujee (bougee?) – a crazy ridiculous fancy product. The product inside surprised me as well! When I think elixir, I think like a light serum. But this is a thick gel consistency! It did sink into the skin really nicely though and didn’t get sticky or leave a film. I don’t mind getting skincare in my ipsy bags, but it’s hard for me to really get a sense of what the product would do for my skin. You’re supposed to test out skincare for 2 weeks before noticing results, and most of these samples only last a few days.

Eyeko Black Magic Mascara

I have about 1000 mascaras but for some reason, I’m never irritated or disappointed when I get another one in my ipsy bag! I’ve heard of Eyeko before and I think I’ve gotten an eyeliner from them before in an ipsy bag. This mascara claims to be water resistant and is cruelty free but doesn’t claim much in terms of what this formula does. First of all, I can definitely confirm the water resistant part because I had such a hard time removing this whenever I wore it! The wand has natural bristles and is crazy curved. I had a hard time with application and the product would end up on my eyelid because I was focusing so hard on maneuvering the wand. The formula itself is ok- honestly nothing to write home about. It separates well and is black, but no big change in length or volume for me.

Firma Beauty Angled Contour Brush

I had been toying around with looking for more contour brushes. I had been looking for something that could give me a precise but subtle contour. So of course I was pretty excited to see that I had a contour brush coming in my bag! This brush was much denser than I thought it would be, but that was a nice surprise! It literally is the perfect size where I can be precise with placement and not go too far down my cheeks. But at the same time, it’s dense so it easily blends out the product and everything looks more natural! The bristles are super soft too. I just hope it lasts well through washing- we’ll find out this weekend!

All in all, this was a pretty great month! The elixir and mascara were probably my least favorites. But, I loved the other 3 products so much that it made up for the blah ones. I may end up looking into the BB cream in a better shade but other than that I’m not sure I would buy the full size of anything this month. But I do feel the need to look into Pacifica products a bit more! What did you all get in your August ipsy bag?
