Splurge or Save? Makeup Forever Ultra HD Foundation

Ok, it’s been a while. But life has been so crazy- both professionally and personally! But I’m hoping after this crazy holiday weekend, things will finally settle down. I wanted to get this post up earlier, but my weekend totally got away from me. This post starts a new series about what products you should splurge on, and what to save your money on. First product: Makeup Forever Ultra HD Foundation.

First up is total honesty- I don’t have a full sized version of the new “Ultra” formula but I did get a deluxe sample. Plus I owned the full size of the old HD formula. It was my go-to for my wedding day makeup! So obviously, I’m a fan of at least the older formula. The new formula still is supposed to look great even under flash photography. It retails for $43 and comes in 40 different shades, ranging from fair to deep with most undertones accounted for! For my wedding day I used the shade 125, which is now Y315. This is a light to medium coverage foundation with a natural finish that leans dewy. The newer formula of this foundation is definitely more dewy than the original. This foundation is supposed to be great for all skin types and is even recommended for everyday wear.

But I have to say, the newer formula is not my favorite. Yes, I just said the two formulas are very similar but those slight changes make the difference for me. The coverage is even lighter than before, and the dewiness turns me into a oil slick. Even though I use powder and just have combo skin! For this product, I would recommend saving your money on this new formula. It’s not as good as the original, and I found a better option that will save you money! The Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation has the same light to medium coverage and natural but slightly dewy finish. It comes in 20 shades with a decent range of skin tones and undertones. But the price. This baby is only $6! And looks awesome in photos just like the high end foundation!

I hope y’all found this post interesting- and I hope I saved you some cash! I plan to do a post similar to this every Saturday in July so stay tuned for more. If you have suggestions for dupes or products you’d like me to try out and review for me- let me know below!
