MOTD: Quick Makeup for Work/School
Long time, no see! Sorry I’ve been MIA- my husband and I are selling our house and moving so my life got kind of crazy. Last week we had a different appointment almost every night. I could barely get time to myself between meeting with the realtor, the mortgage broker, and touring houses! But we’re under contract now (I know, we work quickly!) and I’m hoping to get back on track. With all of the madness, I could not be bothered with experimenting with my makeup. Ain’t nobody got time for that! There has to be other people out there who have their days where they need to rush in the morning so I wanted to share a quick go-to look for when I need to look put together, but don’t have a ton of time! Added bonus: almost all products are from the drugstore!
Whenever I need to get myself together quickly, I usually can’t be bothered with primer. Yes, primer can be very helpful in making makeup last longer or have the added benefit of smoothing. But if I’m truly in a rush I’ll skip that step. The easiest thing for me is to start with Garnier BB Cream- the Combo/Oily version. This is a runny consistency for a BB cream but the coverage of this is better than any other BB cream I’ve tried. I will admit that it’s not the most long lasting formula ever- especially if it’s humid out. But in my air conditioned office, it holds up just fine. If I were to pick a primer, I would choose something mattifying like Make Up For Ever’s Smoothing primer. I normally quickly apply this with (clean) fingers or if I can spare the extra minute, with a damp beautyblender.
After everything’s blended into the skin, I go in with concealer. Lately I’ve been using Maybelline’s Master Conceal. This is a thicker concealer that covers up discoloration very well but I have a hard time blending with my fingers. I’ll only use this if I have my beautyblender ready. If I’m using my fingers to blend, I’ll use Garnier’s Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller. It has a sheer tint to it perfect for lighter makeup days and can be easily blended with my finger. To set my concealer and BB cream, I’ll dust my face with powder. Lately, it’s been Maybelline’s Fit Me powder all over my face to make sure nothing creases throughout the day.
I keep my eyes very simple when I don’t have time in the morning. You can totally just put on mascara and get away with but I cannot live without eyeliner! Since I won’t use any eyeshadow, I’ll take a brown eyeliner like L’oreal’s Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner to line my upper lash line. Most of the mascaras I own are high-end, but you can use any black mascara in your favorite formula. For my brows, I’ve been OBSESSED with Benefit’s Gimme Brow. If you’re looking for an alternative, I’ve heard great things about L’Oreal’s Brow Stylist Plumper! It’s so quick and easy but still defines your brows to pull everything together.
To finish things up, I’ll either throw on some highlight or quickly bronze my face. Lately, it’s been easier (and faster) for me to apply highlight since I don’t have to worry about blending really. My favorite drugstore highlight is Hard Candy’s Baked Bronzer in Tiki. Yes, it’s called a bronzer but it doesn’t look like a bronzer at all so I use it as a highlight. I haven’t discovered a drugstore bronzer I love yet because I’ve been a diehard Benefit Hoola fan since I was 16, but I’m thinking I will venture out soon to see what bronzers the drugstore has come out with this season! After I apply highlight or bronzer, I’m all set!
After we move and get settled in, I’m looking forward to adding to my makeup collection since I’ll have more storage and hopefully I’ll be able to find more great drugstore alternatives to the high-end brands! For some products I don’t mind splurging but it’s always great to have another option (or two) in case I’m trying to stick to a budget. Have you discovered any new drugstore products lately? What are your fav quick products? I’d love to start a list of what to try once we move into our new house!
