Lip Liner Brawl: Urban Decay Lip Pencil

November 26, 2017Reviews, , Standard

Today’s post is a little late, but we hosted a family gathering yesterday. So I didn’t have much time to get this post up! We’re gonna chat about the last formula in my lip liner series. This formula from Urban Decay is another high end brand that we’re putting to the test. So does it fare better than some of the drugstore alternatives?

I am pretty in love with their 24/7 Eyeliner pencils. So I had pretty high hopes for the Urban Decay lip pencil as well! Urban Decay is a high end brand found at Sephora and Ulta, so this lip pencil retails for $20. They have a whopping 50 shades in this formula so no matter what kind of lip product you’re looking to match, you can probably find something that will work in this line. This is yet another wooden pencil, which I tend to prefer. I picked up the shade Naked which is a nude pink perfect for my skin tone. I figured it would be a pretty versatile shade I could pair with neutral shades. And I could use it to tone down some of the brighter shades that I own.

Like I said before, this is a wooden pencil which tend to be less creamy but last a little longer. I do wish I also had a deeper shade to test out because it’s easier to tell how it wears. But this formula has great pigment and is smooth to apply to the lips. It’s not overly creamy but it also doesn’t tug or pull on my lips at all. It lasts on my lips a really long time and looks great underneath products as well as on its own. It does feel slightly drying on my lips after about 4-5 hours though. I definitely prefer this over the Milani formula because I feel like the pencil will last longer since it’s not as creamy. It’s a hard toss up between this formula and NYX though. I would give a slight edge to Urban Decay because the pigment is better.

Overall, I would rank the Urban Decay lip pencil as #1 out of all the pencils I’ve tried this month. If you’re looking to stay on a budget, NYX is a close #2. It may just require a bit more work to get even pigment all over the lips. Both of those formulas are really long lasting. I haven’t always believed that lip liners make a huge difference but these formulas have changed my mind! I definitely want to try a MAC lip liner soon and would love to hear more suggestions!
