Turning into a Bag Lady: Ipsy May 2017
Another month, another ipsy bag! This month’s theme was all about summer and the pool! It hasn’t been feeling much like summer around here lately, but we’re oh so close to Memorial Day! The design of this ipsy bag is pretty clever because it’s like a plastic pool floatie material. Plus it has ice cream on it! Anyways, here’s what I got:
Global Beauty Care Charcoal Wash Off Mask
I swear I’ve gotten this before in a different ipsy bag. But maybe it was a slightly different mask from the same brand. Anyways, this is a charcoal based mask which I love because of my combo skin. I tend to get blackheads around my nose so charcoal is perfect for clearing out those pores! This one is more gentle than most I’ve tried, which is great if my skin is acting up. You only have to leave this one on for 15 minutes, but I’m a rebel (obvi) and leave it on for longer. I can’t say I notice dramatic results with this mask but overall, I do like it. I find it a little tricky to wash off though. At first it feels like a film is going to be left on the skin but just keep rinsing and that feeling goes away!
Pur-Lisse BB Tinted Moist Cream in Light
If the shade wasn’t off on this product, I’d probably love this even more! There’s only 3 shades to in the range so the pickin’ is slim. For a BB cream, this has pretty great coverage. Definitely not full, but pretty close to medium and it is buildable. I definitely prefer a beauty sponge to apply this- the kabuki brush I used made it streaky at first but then it blended out well. It sits on the skin nicely and it’s been lasting on my skin throughout the whole work day. It pairs better with lighter coverage concealers though. Layering a full coverage concealer on top made the area around my nose a little cakey by the end of the day. Oh and I did get compliments on my skin while wearing this today so obviously now I need the full size. Sorry not sorry.
Urban Decay Afterglow Highlight in Sin
I actually already received this product sample from an Ulta order or something, so I already knew how I felt about this one. I have tried this enough times where I can give both pros and cons at this point. My big gripe about this highlight is how glittery it is. If you like subtle highlights, this will definitely not be for you. During the day in natural lighting, I did not like how this looked whatsoever. It looks glittery and just has way too much shine for my taste. However, I do love the way this looks in low lighting. So if you’re going for a night out with the girls or on date night, this could be a great highlight to really make you glow! But again, definitely not going to be subtle!
Trestique Mini Matte Lip Crayon in Tuscan Wine
This might have been the most disappointing product in my ipsy bag. I freaking love matte crayons so I was excited to try this one! First of all, the shade name is a off for me. I thought this would be a deeper red since it has wine in the title but it’s like a true red, but a touch deeper. It’s a beautiful color and it does look great on my skin tone! First of all, the tip is like a straight up crayon. So getting the edges of the lips is just impossible. And I’m not about to carry a lip brush with me on the go! I did wear a lip liner with this, but the color still bled and smeared throughout the day. I might try blotting this on the lips for that “popsicle pout” effect but overall this was a miss for me.
Royal & Langnickel Precision Angled Brush
Another brush in my ipsy bag- which I actually love getting! This one in particular though is just kinda meh for me. It’s not horrible but it’s also nothing I totally rave about. It does look like a good quality brush that will stand up pretty well over time. It is nice and dense, and the angle is great for contouring the face. I won’t use this for my nose because it is larger but for the cheekbones it’s great! You can really carve them out with this brush so it’s super easy to get a precise shadow. I usually go in with a fluffy or duo fiber brush which makes it easier to blend it out. It’s tough to solely use this brush for applying and blending your contour.
Overall, this month was kinda meh for me. But when looking at the options for this month’s bag, they did a decent job finding the products I would lean towards the most. I love summer products and summer trends so I can’t wait to see what the next few months will bring!
