Hue Review: Sonia Kashuk Soft Focus Satin Matte Foundation
Let me just start off by saying this Sonia Kashuk foundation is so hard to find! Apparently it’s super popular right now and every time I would go to pick it up, almost all of the shades were out of stock. You can only get this foundation at Target (I paid $13) and it comes in 6 shades. Sadly, the shades on the medium to deep end are like nonexistent. I picked up Shade 3 Cream, but I think 2 Vanilla would have been a better match.
I decided to grab this after I saw Casey Holmes raving about it on her YouTube channel. She has very oily sensitive skin and was raving about how longwearing it was. So, I just had to try it for myself. The shade that I got was definitely too dark but I’m hoping it will match later in the year. I can also balance it pretty well with concealer. The first thing I noticed about this foundation was the smell. It’s very perfumy which I’m not a fan of. It does dissipate after about an hour but in the meantime the scent is pretty strong. I prefer to use a damp makeup sponge with this because the blending is much more flawless. It dries pretty quickly so using the sponge just made my life easier. The finish is really pretty- I agree with the satin matte claim.
But how does it wear? On me, it lasted through my entire work day. It even lasted through most the evening without touching up! I think I will get the most use out of this when the weather gets warmer. Right now my skin is more dry to combination and this foundation was just a little too mattifying for my skin. I do think if you have drier skin, this will not work for you. I didn’t notice it clinging to dry patches but my skin felt a little tight as the day went on. Maybe using it with an oil or dewy primer would make it better for someone with dry skin? The coverage of this was great and I didn’t notice it fade at all throughout the day.
Overall, this is a pretty great drugstore foundation. I prefer it over the Maybelline Infallible Pro-Matte foundation because it’s easier to blend and doesn’t cling to dry patches. Plus, it comes with a pump! The scent is a major con for me but I love the finish and coverage. This would be ideal for normal to oily skin for fair to medium skin tones. The shade range is limited and there isn’t a wide selection based on undertone. But if you can find a shade that works, I would definitely recommend!
