Hue Review: NYX HD Concealer
If you saw my giant Ulta haul last month, you know that I got a ton of new products to try out. I have heard good things about this concealer being good for a drugstore price. So of course I had to grab it for myself and see if they’re telling the truth! No one ever claims that this is a dupe for anything but I still wanted to try it out.
NYX is an affordable brand, so this concealer retails for only $5 and you get .11oz of product. So you get a lot less than ones like the Maybelline Better Skin or Tarte Shape Tape which has .25oz and .33oz, respectively. This comes in 19 different shades and an additional 3 which are color correctors. The shade range is pretty great, but I will say that the Ulta website makes it hard to pick a color. I grabbed the shade Beige but I would have preferred something a smidge lighter for a brightening effect. The applicator on this is a standard doe-foot but the one side is long and flat, which I like. It helps to apply the concealer under the eyes and picks up more product than the typical wand would. But at the same time I do still have to dip in multiple times on each eye.
NYX claims that this concealer applies smoothly, doesn’t clog pores and has a medium to heavy coverage. I do think the product glides on but like I said before, I do have to dip back into the product multiple times. I haven’t noticed anything with my pores getting clogged either. But then again, most of the product is focused underneath the eyes and I don’t really break out there. I’m not sure I agree with the coverage. I think this is light to medium depending on how much you apply. For me, I didn’t have any problems blending it out but I definitely prefer to use a beauty sponge. When it dries, it sets to a matte finish that is almost powder like. But I still use a powder to set it and sometimes that still isn’t enough to keep it from creasing.
This may work for other skin types, but for me it was just ok. The price point is great but at the same time you also don’t get a whole lot of product. This concealer might work for lighter makeup days, but I tend to prefer one with a natural finish for that purpose (like the Maybelline Better Skin). If my concealer has a matte finish, I want it to have medium or full coverage and this just doesn’t do it for me. I just think there are other options that are better despite the NYX option’s amazing price.
