Hue Review: MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencil
nI really don’t own too many products from MAC. But I do love their brush cleaner! During my most recent purchase it was apparently the anniversary from when I first signed up for their perk program. So I was able to snag a full sized product for free! Namely, their Patentpolish Lip Pencil. I’ve never even heard anyone mention this product before, good or bad, so I was curious to see what this would be like!
It was a little hard to choose a shade because colors online can look deceiving. And for some reason I didn’t search for swatches before I ordered! Anyways, the Patentpolish Lip Pencil is basically MAC’s lip crayon formula. If you don’t know, I love a good lip crayon so I was pretty excited that I got this for free in honor of my loyalty program anniversary! I picked up the shade Revved Up which online is a creamy peach. I was hoping for a more neutral peachy nude shade but this is definitely a bright peach. Which is a great shade but probably something that I’ll use more often in the summer. But there are 18 shades so a wide variety that will fit so many different preferences and styles. These are at a high end price point and retail for $21 on MAC’s website.
The formula of this is pretty great though. Obviously these types of crayon formulas aren’t the most long lasting. But they are really creamy and moisturizing. I love wearing formulas like this when I’ve overdone it with my liquid lipsticks. They give a hint of color without looking or feeling like a full lipstick. The shade I have is more glossy and has some glitter and shine to it, but MAC does have matte shades available as well. It’s very easy to apply because the formula is so creamy and you don’t have to worry about being so precise since it is meant to be a hint of color. It is a solid formula and since I got it for free, it’s obviously a great deal for me. But would I pay $21 for this formula. Ehhhh probably not.
If you want to try out a crayon lip formula, start at the drugstore! L’Oreal and Revlon have very similar formulas to this MAC one. And there are some great gift sets out right now from Clinique with their chubby sticks. Yes, this is a good product but if you can save some money and get a similar formula, why not?!
