Celebrity Inspiration: Kate Hudson
Kate Hudson is an actress I’ve loved for so long and she always looks so stunning. And I’ll be honest, I can’t get enough of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. It definitely started the relationship with Kate Hudson. Anyways, her makeup artist did a classic Kate Hudson look for her red carpet appearance for Kung Fu Panda 3 and I just love it for winter! The MUA used all Laura Mercier products but I’ve found a few wallet friendly alternatives as well!
For special events, I always use a primer but the MUA didn’t mention one in this case. I love the NYX Angel Veil for smoothing and on the high end, Smashbox has a cult following for their primers. For foundation, they used the Candleglow Soft Luminous Foundation which is a lighter coverage foundation with a slight glow. I sadly cannot find a solid alternative for the foundation. They used the Secret Camouflage to conceal as needed (I wouldn’t recommend this for highlighting under the eyes). If you don’t want to shell out too much, this concealer palette looks like a decent alternative. I’m shocked there was nothing used to set the face, but red carpets are all about glow so the MUA probably didn’t want to mattify. I would recommend the RCMA No Color Powder (used sparingly if you’ll be around flash photography).
The major thing I noticed when I looked at Kate Hudson’s eyes was all the lash! Obviously, she’s wearing some serious falsies. But you could easily transition this look to the day by using a great volumizing mascara like the L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara. If you wanted to do falsies, I would look for more dramatic, but a long and wispy style. There is a nice glow all along the inner tear duct of the eye and on the inner third of the lash line. That is thanks to the Caviar Stick in Sugar Frost. A great alternative to that shade is ColourPop’s Fringe. And really, that’s it for the eyes! The focus on this look is definitely glowy skin and a bold lip.
The MUA only mentioned 2 other products used. No bronzer for this look, but personally I like more definition of my cheekbones so I would definitely contour. For cheek color, the MUA used the Bonne Mine Face Colour in Peach Glow (currently backordered). I am all about peach shades for my cheeks, and my personal favorite shade is Peach Primrose. But cream blushes add a little more glow, so the closest alternative I can find is the NARS Multiple Stick. Lastly, the lips! The MUA used this Velour Lovers Lip Colour in the shade Boudoir. It’s a great berry shade which I love for the winter! A nice alternative is the Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Brandy Berry.
And there you have it! I hope you get the courage to rock a berry lip this winter because it’s seriously one of my favorite shades to wear. Kate Hudson’s makeup look is great not only for the red carpet but it can be easily adjusted to daytime or everyday wear! If you have any ideas for my next celebrity inspiration, just let me know!
