Celebrity Inspiration: Carrie Underwood
I’m not huge on country music, but I have a special connection to Carrie Underwood. She was one of my favorite contestants on American Idol. Then, we ended up joining the same sorority in college! Carrie has always been into smokey eye makeup, which I’ve been trying to practice. So, she’s my inspiration this month! Here’s how I get a similar look:
Carrie Underwood is a spokesperson for Almay, so most of her products are from the drugstore. Which is great for our wallets! Ok so, she’s been rocking a more glowy complexion since she’s had a baby. She says she uses Almay’s Smart Shade CC Luminous Primer and she uses the same line for her foundation (applied with a brush). There’s not a ton of shade range in that foundation, but you can use any luminous primer and natural finish foundation. She doesn’t have a super highlighted face, so just use an undereye concealer 1 shade lighter than your skin tone. Her makeup artist actually said he doesn’t use powder so touchups are easier, but if you want to avoid that- definitely use powder!
Her eye looks are what get me every time. Of course, she uses the Almay Intense i-color for hazel eyes. I totally used to have this when I first started wearing makeup! Use the lightest shade for the browbone and inner corner, the medium shade on the lid, and the darkest to smoke the outer corners. Her makeup artist wets the shimmer shadows so they’re more intense! Be sure to really smoke out the lower lash line. For liner, she switches between brown and black on the waterline. I assume she has liquid liner on the top because she definitely wears falsies. Her makeup artist uses the Heart Lashes from Smoke and Mirrors Beauty but these from Velour would work well too. Oh, and fill in your brows naturally if you need to- Carrie overplucked when she was younger. So she fills them in naturally.
She doesn’t have intense definition at all on the face since the focus is on the eyes. Her makeup artist doesn’t even mention this part of the face. I would lightly bronze up the skin with a neutral bronzer like Benefit Hoola or the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer. Keep the bronzer back towards the temple and go no further than the outer corner of the eye. Her blush is the main color on the apples of the cheeks. She definitely favors pink shades like MAC Pink Swoon or Milani Delizioso Pink. I would skip the face highlight because her looks aren’t super glowy. For lips, her classic nude is the Almay Smart Shade Lip Butter in Pink Light.
I haven’t tried too many of Almay’s products, but I’m half tempted to pick up a few things next time! Carrie Underwood does her own makeup most of the time, and has said in interviews that it’s easier for her to grab products at the drugstore. And I actually believe her. Really the main thing to think about is the intense smoked out shadow and lower lash line. And dramatic falsies! WIll you be trying this look anytime soon?!
