Celeb Inspiration: Amanda Seyfried’s Look

My celeb inspirations have mainly been focused on eyeliner and having rather simple shadow looks. And that is the “rut” that I’ve been finding myself in lately with my makeup looks. It’s a great everyday look but I’ve been looking for inspiration for a more dramatic look. But one that would still be wearable enough for work/daytime. I’ve always loved the smokiness of Amanda Seyfried’s look, so I decided to use her as inspiration!

Base

Amanda is a spokesperson for Cle de Peau, which is a crazy expensive luxury makeup brand. Definitely not practical for me to recreate literally. She doesn’t prefer foundation for errands or whatever during the day, but her red carpet looks always have a natural finish. Something like the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation on the high end, or the Revlon PhotoReady InstaFix Foundation Stick for a similar finish. To conceal, I would also stick with a natural finish since Amanda’s face is never super matte. Something like Maybelline Better Skin or Sephora Bright Future would work well. To set all that, Cle de Peau does have a translucent powder for a cool $105. But if you need to set, I would just use whatever you have in your collection.

Eyes

This is where Amanda’s red carpet looks come into play. She doesn’t rock these looks on the daily, but her smoky eyes can be pretty for us beauty addicts during the day! For this post, I’m trying to mimic a purple smokey look she wore to the Oscars. Start off with an eyeshadow close to your skin tone. For me, it’s Tarte’s Flower Child. Using a fluffy brush, I’d dust a cool toned lavender in the outer V of the eye, bringing it into the crease. Something like Tarte’s Best Friend or Lorac’s Violet Grey. I’d bring this color in about ⅓ of the way onto my lid. To give more depth, I’d add either Bombshell from the Tarte palette, or Eggplant from the Lorac palette to the outer V. I’d also take the same color and run it along my lower lash line (but only about halfway).

Finishing Touches

I’d definitely fill in my brows but would probably go for a more natural brow using a powder or just lightly filling in with a pencil. I would just line the outer part of the upper lash line with a deep grey and line my upper waterline with a black pencil. Then I’d finish off the eyes with a volumizing mascara like the L’Oreal Lash Paradise. Amanda has beautiful pale skin so no bronzer for this look- just a very, very light contour. A light pink or natural blush like NYX Mauve or Hourglass’ Radiant Magenta, which also gives a nice glow. No highlight since the skin focus is on flushed cheeks, but of course we have to top it off with the lips! Something like MAC Shy Girl or Estee Lauder’s Crystal Baby would compliment this look perfectly.

I definitely want to start getting more adventurous in doing light smokey looks during the day and even experimenting with color more! My summer has been full of light eye looks and bold lips. Which I looooove. But it’s about time I switch it up and Amanda Seyfried’s red carpet smokey eyes are the perfect inspiration for me right now.
