Brand Focus: L’Oreal Cosmetics

Time for another brand focus! I’m hoping to keep this up once a month and give you the product I love and don’t love from a certain brand. This time, we’re going drugstore and talking about L’Oreal. This is one of the big brands when it comes to the drugstore, but the affordable price point can sometimes mean unpredictability.

Brow Stylist Plumper in Light to Medium

I was rounding up everything L’Oreal for my photos  and realized just now that I forgot a product! Their brow mascara is everything. I’m obsessed- I have no idea how I almost forgot about this. It works just like the Benefit Gimme Brow but I love this so much more (and it’s cheaper!). The shade of this is more natural and not as ashy as the Benefit one. It’s great used alone for light/lazy makeup days or layered on top of brow products to set everything. It has little fibers that help fill in and give added volume to the brows.

Voluminous Smoldering Eyeliner in Black and Brown

I love this product so much that I grabbed it in two colors. At the price point, why not?! I love that this comes with a sharpener too. It’s not the greatest, but it gets the job done. This is a kajal style liner so it’s super creamy. I use this to line my upper lash line to give added definition. It can be tough to get a thin line but I usually like my eyeliner a little thicker so I don’t mind. Where this really shines is on the waterline- it lasts for hours! It’s my go-to on the waterline when I want to do a smokier look.

Colour Riche Lipstick in Fairest Nude

I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned this before because I’ve been so into matte lipsticks lately. But, I’ve been playing around with creamier formulas lately and I love this! First of all, there’s nothing better than an everyday nude shade. I’ve been getting more creative with my eyeshadow lately so it’s great to have a go-to nude shade. On top of that, this one is so affordable! This formula is super comfortable and creamy, and the color just glides onto the lips so easily. Because of the creaminess, it doesn’t last crazy long but it’s the give and take you get for comfort!

True Match Crayon Concealer

I originally got this concealer because I was looking for something to spot conceal my blemishes. It goes on well at first and does an ok job at covering up the imperfections. It’s a super creamy formula and the crayon style packaging is pretty handy. But, over the course of the day it just looks worse and worse, even using a powder to set. I found that it clung to my blemish and broke up which made the imperfections more noticeable. So not the point! It was also pretty tricky to blend…I had to really make it work with the warmth of my fingers. Sadly, I wouldn’t recommend this for anyone. There are better products out on the market, even at the drugstore! The L’Oreal Age Rewind Concealer is better for the undereye area in a light shade and does a decent job covering up blemishes.

True Match Foundation

I know. This was such a holy grail, hyped up product for so long. But I really have no idea why! For a while I even think I convinced myself that I liked it! But as I tried other products, I realized this was not so great after all. I would say it has light to medium coverage, and it does blend into the skin pretty well. The longevity is decent if you set with powder and the shade range is one of the best I’ve seen at the drugstore. The Lumi version I’ve been loving for the winter since it gives such great extra moisture. But I have one big issue with both of these foundations. It breaks me out if I use it too often and emphasizes my pores like crazy! If you’re worried about pores, DO NOT pick this up. Even a good primer and powder didn’t fix the issue for me!

There is another product I’ll give an “honorable mention.” The Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara is one I’ve really been loving so far but I’m just not sure I’d give it holy grail status. It’s super black and gives decent volume! But I need to compare it to more mascaras before I make up my mind. Another “meh” is the Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation. It dries so quickly so you have to work fast, and with a sponge. It’s also pretty drying and can break me out if I use it too often. I would only recommend this for combo skin (if you’re leaning oily) to very oily skin.

Phew! I had more to discuss than I thought I did! This is definitely not an exhaustive list, and there’s tons more L’Oreal products that I’d be willing to test out. I’ve been super curious about drugstore makeup lately, but I’ve been trying to be good and stay away from Ulta! What are your L’Oreal favs? Leave them below!
