Battle of the Liquid Lipsticks: Dose of Colors

Hope you’re excited for more long lasting liquid lipsticks! This week we’re going more high end to a brand that was just recently introduced at Sephora. I haven’t tried too many of this brand’s products so far. But I have always heard such great things about the Dose of Colors liquid lipstick formula. I was dying to try it and then they were featured at 50% off during a sale at Ulta a month or so ago. So of course I grabbed one of their shades!

For starters, I totally would have gotten more than one but they only had 2 shades left in stock when I went online. They sold out quick! So that has to be a good sign? They are high end so they retail for $18 and come in 27 different shades. But if you go on the Dose of Colors website, they do release limited edition, seasonal colors pretty often. In fact, there are 2 holiday sets available at Ulta with exclusive shades. I was able to get the shade Mintea which is a nude with a peach undertone. The applicator on this product is a standard doe foot with a slight indent in the center which hugs the lips. So application is super easy and comfortable because it is a pretty standard packaging.

The formula of this product is more on the mousse side. This typically means that the formula is more comfortable but not as long lasting. But I put it to the test to see for myself! The first time I tried this, I hated it. It was thick and looked cakey on my lips. And it felt sticky! But the second time went much better. You have to apply an extremely thin layer. With my fresh tube, I wiped off all of the product layered on the applicator and then went to apply it. It did feel very comfortable on my lips but it did wear off after my pasta lunch. It doesn’t layer all that well, so I think this is a formula better for something like drinks and hors d’oeuvres. But it never got the dry feeling that other formulas get. Oh, and no transfer!

Overall, I really wasn’t as impressed with this formula as I thought I’d be! I will definitely continue to use this especially during the warmer months when my lips aren’t so dry. And I will try different shades since this one was technically part of a special collection. But for all the talk and price point of this one, I wanted more from this formula.
